Modeling large-area influence in digital halftoning for electrophotographic printers

چکیده
Digital halftoning provides a mechanism for rendering continuous-tone images on devices such as printers. With electrophotography, the deposition of toner within the area of a given printer addressable pixel is strongly influenced by the halftone values of the immediately neighboring pixels. To account for these effects, it is necessary to embed a printer model in the halftoning algorithm. In our previous work, we used an efficient strategy to account for the impact of a 5×5 neighborhood of pixels on the central pixel absorptance. Now we examine the potential influence of a much larger neighborhood (45×45) of the digital halftone image on the measured value of a printed pixel at the center of that neighborhood. The experiment shows that the extended model yields a significant improvement in the accuracy of the prediction of the pixel values of the printed and measured halftone image.

AMÕFM halftoning: digital halftoning through simultaneous modulation of dot size and dot density
Conventional digital halftoning approaches function by modulating either the dot size [amplitude modulation (AM)] or the dot density [frequency modulation (FM)]. Generally, AM halftoning methods have the advantage of low computation and good print stability, while FM halftoning methods typically have higher spatial resolution and resistance to moiré artifacts. In this paper, we present a new cl...

This paper presents a two-dimensional Wiener model in spatial domain for a class of laser electrophotographic printers, and embeds it into a framework of model-based digital halftoning. The Wiener model comprises an FIR filter followed by a nonlinear static mapping. The nonlinear static mapping is synthesized using a fuzzy system to maximize its capability to approximate nonlinearity of high de...
متن کاملHigh-speed first- and second-order frequency modulated halftoning
Halftoning is a crucial part of image reproduction in print. First-order frequency modulated (FM) halftones, in which the single dots are stochastically distributed, are widely used in printing technologies, such as inkjet, that are able to stably print isolated dispersed dots. Printers, such as laser printers, that utilize electrophotographic technology are not able to stably print the isolate...
